Symposium

Balance of Powers 2022 Symposium

November 5, 2022 in Louisville, Kentucky

In an era of division and partisanship, politicization has permeated every facet of American society, with the legal system being no exception. On one side of the aisle, people are pushing for an exponential increase in federal judicial power — a system of governing with judges. Alternatively, on the other end of the spectrum, is a championing of states' rights and limited federal adjudicative authority. This Symposium seeks to answer two questions: What is the correct relationship between the federal and state courts?, and how are we to foster and perpetuate a symbiotic relationship between the two seemingly irreconcilable court systems?

We have a great variety of speakers participating, each of whom will discuss various doctrines going to the heart of the aforementioned questions. Also, it is with great pride that the University of Louisville Law Review is bringing to the event a judicial panel, comprised of state and federal judges who will be debating the correct relationship between state and federal courts in the afternoon session.

This is open to the public and 5 CLE credits will be offered. If you are currently working in a legal setting or know attorneys that need to complete their CLE credits for this year, this is a great opportunity - the ticket prices are lower than current market.
